Crossing the Quality Chasm was released by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 2001.  This ground breaking publication identified the need for systemic redesign to improve patient care and safety, increase patient satisfaction, and to identify ways to better attract and retain health professionals.

In response to the findings of the IOM report and the challenges to quality care delivery on medical/surgical units, the Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) initiative was launched in 2003 as a collaborative effort of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation® (RWJF®) and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).  Initially piloted at 10 hospitals, today the effort has grown to participation by over 80 hospitals in the TCAB Learning and Innovation Community in IHI’s IMPACT Network and 68 in the American Organization of Nurse Executives TCAB collaboratives.

TCAB engages leaders at all levels of the health care organization to:

  • Improve the quality and safety of patient care on medical and surgical units;
  • Increase the vitality and retention of nurses;
  • Engage and improve the patient’s and family members’ experience of care; and
  • Improve the effectiveness of the entire care team.

Whether you are looking for a basic understanding of the TCAB initiative, or you are interested in hearing about  the experiences at two TCAB hospitals, or your organization is interesting in participating in one of the  TCAB collaboratives , this webinar is sure to offer something for everyone.

This complimentary webinar will offer:

  • An overview of the original TCAB initiative and ongoing plans for involving additional hospitals, by the VP at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement who co-led the original TCAB innovation initiative.
  • Two case studies demonstrating how the TCAB program has spread throughout two of today’s leading health care provider organizations, The University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (in Houston) and Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics (in Kansas City).

Presenters:

She is responsible for managing IHI's Clinical Office Practice Redesign, Improving Access and Flow in Specialty Practices and Outpatient Settings, Optimizing Care Coordination and Transitions in Care, Innovations in Patient-Centered Care, and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and IHI initiative, Transforming Care at the Bedside.
